Virtual Private Server (VPS) Hosting
Virtual private server (VPS), hosting offers an alternative to shared web hosting plans. With a VPS or virtual server hosting plan, you are granted superuser access to an operating system installed on a high performance server, and you can manage your virtual computing environment independently from others. For example, the server pictured at left might be partitioned to accomodate 4 virtual private servers, each VPS having their own private allocation of the server's resources. Two of those virtual servers might be running a Linux operating system, and two others might be running Windows. Each VPS gets a certain amount of RAM and storage and processing power, and those limits, or borders if you will, can never be breached by the other virtual servers.
What is a Virtual Private Server?
A virtual private server, or VPS, is a software "image" or instance of a complete operating system. Each VPS is allotted a portion of a physical server's hardware resources (based on type of hosting plan). Each virtual server has its own operating system (OS) and server administrators can create other users, reboot the machine, and operate on them no differently than if the server was right in front of them. VPS hosting accomplishes many of the same goals that a dedicated server does, at a fraction of the cost.
A virtual private server is:
- functionally the same as a separate physical computer
- configured for each customer's needs
- able to function as a server
- sometimes called a Virtual Private Server (VPS)
- sometimes called a Virtual Machine (VM)
Why would I want Virtual Private Server Hosting?
There are many advantages to VPS hosting. Besides the cost saving aspect, a virtual private server benefits from the reliability, scalability and speed of the data center bandwidth. Our data center uses Intelligent Routing Technology to connect to any of 8 upstream service providers at any time. The routing technology determines in real-time the fastest path for your data flow to take. In other words, it's fast, and it's reliable.
Most dedicated servers use only a fraction of their maximum installable resources. Since we can allocate several virtual machines to a single physical server, each VPS reserves a portion of the server's computing power. A virtual private server is an ideal solution to avoid the costs of new and maintained hardware, therefore significantly cheaper. You can choose a plan that fits your expected needs and can scale as your business grows, all the time operating on leading edge hardware. Have an OS failure today? No problem, your daily backup is ready and you can access it right where you left off!
Your VPS server is hosted in a facility with enterprise level power, systems redundancy and multiple high speed simultaneous bandwidth connectivity to upstream providers. Backups and maintenance are included in all plans.
