| Configuring
E-mail |
|
Most likely, you are reading this because you can't seem to send or receive(or
both!) email from your client based email application such as Outlook, Netscape,
Outlook Express etc. Here are some things to check for before you call or write:
1. Verify Internet Connection. Are you connected
to the Internet? Are you able to 'surf' to other websites?
If not, your Internet Service Provider may be experiencing a problem. Remember
ABS is not a provider of internet services. For Instance, you may have SBC DSL,
AOL or Earthlink as your Internet connection but host your website and email services
through ABS. If you are sure you're connected to the Internet...read on!
2. Log into WEBMAIL to verify your account is
sending and receiving email correctly. Make sure your browser is enabled with
128 bit encryption. Webmail's advanced security features require 128 bit encryption.
You can find this browser information as follows: (ex: Internet Explorer users,
click 'Help/About Internet Explorer'). If your browser is not 128 bit encrypted,
stop here and upgrade before continuing. Then...
Log into (ex: http://mail.YOURDOMAINNAME .org, .net, .com, etc.) Your username
is your full email account (ex:bob@bobsdomain.com). If you cannot access your
browser-based Webmail account (and you have checked that your caps locks/spelling/password
is correct), please contact ABS for further support.
3. Outlook \ Outlook Express setup verification.
To configure your new email account into Outlook:
- Launch Outlook
- Select Tools -> Accounts
- Select the Mail tab
- Select the Add button -> Mail
- Type a display name for your new email account. This display
name will appear in the From: field of any email messages
that you send from this account
- Select Next
- Type your new email address in the E-mail address: field
- Select Next
- The E-mail Server Names window will appear
- Leave POP3 selected
- Type mail1.absinternet.com in both the Incoming(POP3)
and Outgoing(SMTP)mail server fields
- Select Next
- Provide your account name (your new email address)
- Provide your new email account password
- Check the box marked "My outgoing SMTP server requires
authentication"
- Select Next
- Select Connect using my local area network (LAN)
- Select Next
- A confirmation window will appear. Select Finish
- The email account setup is complete

4. Sending (SMTP) Problems. If you are using
AOL, Earthlink, or several other ISP's to connect to the internet, chances are
likely your outgoing mail (smtp) is being intercepted by them. Not a problem,
except most mail servers today validate the mail they receive is actually being
sent from the account holders mail server (to combat the spam problem). You will
need to make the following changes to resolve this problem:
- Launch Outlook
- Select Tools -> Accounts
- Select the Mail tab
- Double click on your email account
- Select the Advanced Tab
- Change the Outgoing (SMTP) Server port to 366
- Select OK
- The email account setup is complete
IMPORTANT NOTE: IF YOU ARE NOT
USING AN ABSinternet OUTGOING MAIL SERVER, DO NOT MAKE ANY CHANGES TO YOUR EMAIL
SETTINGS! (i.e. mail.pacbell.net, smtp.socal.rr.com, mail.earthlink.net, etc.).
Remember, DO NOT modify
non-absinternet e-mail accounts!
If you still cannot send and/or receive
email, and are sure of your server settings, please contact us support@absinternet.com
or call us at 805-498-1415

setup is available for Outlook
and Netscape.

I can't send
large files through email! |
| We deliberately place a 10MB limit on files sent through
email! As you can imagine, the volume of email we get through our servers is substantial.
For this reason we created a separate file sending service. You can access it
using your existing Webmail login at: http://fileshare.absinternet.com |
I can't download
attachments in Webmail! |
| If you have problems downloading attachments when using
webmail, you probably also have XP Service Pack 2 installed. The only workaround
at this time is to add the site http://207.178.241.10 to your trusted sites list
within Internet Explorer to allow you to open or download attachments. |
Why is my email password being reset? |
| Our email servers automatically reset
email passwords when suspicious email activity occurs or when attempted
large emails (over the 10MB limit) are continuously sent over and over. You
will need to contact your email administrator to reset your password when
this occurs.
|
How do I access
Webmail? |
| You can access Webmail by logging into mail.absinternet.com.
Your Username is your email address. You can administer the domain's email accounts
by logging in with the administrative email you were given when you created your
hosting account. |
What are the
storage and/or time limits for email stored in Webmail?
|
| There are no storage limits. However, email past 90 days
will automatically be deleted from Webmail. We recommend archiving your email
using a client based email program (ie. Outlook, Outlook Express). |
My website statistics are not up to date. Why?
|
| Recently we changed our method of reporting statistics
to "realtime" stats. Which means you can view your traffic statistics at any time.
|
How do I add email addresses for my domain?
|
Simply log into your webmail account
with your provided administrator account (http://mail.domain.com).
Once you're logged in, click "Options" on the left
side, then click "Advanced Options", then click
"Domains". From this screen you will see your domain(s).
Now click "Edit" and you will see buttons to either
add, edit or delete email accounts for your domain.

Having to always hit send/receive to get email.
In Outlook 2003, at the right side of the send/receive button is a small triangle that you can click to reveal a drop-down list.
Mouse over "send/receive settings" then choose "define send/receive groups". from here you can configure if Outlook will download your email manually or automatically.
I'm getting bounced messages from my email account!
All messaages with a "from" address that is an ABS Internet hosted domain MUST be routed through one of our outgoing mail servers or it will be refused. One common scenario is when a third-party mailing application is being used to send out newsletters, mass emails, etc. You cannot use an ABS email account as a "from" address in this case. A workaround in this situation:
Change your "from" address to myaccount@mydomain-no-reply.com, substituting myaccount and mydomain with your particular information, then instruct your recipients of a reply address in the body of the email message.
Note: ABS Internet will not add third-party mail servers as trusted hosts under any circumstances.
